I tried a kolam in alpona style. I was not in a mood and couldn't think much out of box. As usual I started to draw without any preparations. I never had a thought what I was going to draw or how.
I tried a kolam in alpona style.. I was not in a mood and couldn't think much out of box. As usual I started to draw without any preparations. I never had a thought what I was going to draw or how to start. It all happened with a start of a tear drop shape as the base design and started to extend as my thoughts were wandering far away. Still tried to pull all my sweet memories to lock inside this beautiful alpona. Hope It looks pretty with all the sweetness of life it reflects.
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down the dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
