I copied this design from my Mom's notebook. That notebook should be 40 years old. My Mom had drawn her collections when she was in her teens and then the notebook served as a code book to her siblings and cousins. The notebook gets lost at times and appears from nowhere. Always a Hide and seek game with the book. Right now in its hiding spot, need to find out when I visit my Mom's home next time.

Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down 11-Dot dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
