Today it's green colour enhancing my kolam. Green, the colour of nature, where we are ignoring the importance of our vital colour in our life. Green colour reminds me of the paddy fields in my inla.
Today it's green colour enhancing my kolam. Green, the colour of nature, where we are ignoring the importance of our vital colour in our life.
Green colour reminds me of the paddy fields in my inlaws home town in Trichy. It gave me an immense pleasure to travel the 15 minute drive from Woraiyur to inlaws home with a small road having a snaky track in amidst of green fields... Now all the paddy fields have yielded concrete trees. It's heart wrenching to watch the disappearing agricultural lands where cultivation was done right from the great King's era. Wish a Green Revolution happens again.
Indeed Halcyon Days were those.
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down 11-Dot dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
