A small 13 dots sikku kolam done in a jiffy. After a small gap, I did this kolam with nylon podi and had starting trouble while slipping the powder through fingers. The texture of the powder is too.
A small 13 dots sikku kolam done in a jiffy. After a small gap, I did this kolam with nylon podi and had starting trouble while slipping the powder through fingers. The texture of the powder is too fine and if pinched too hard the strokes get sheared. I do have some starting problem if I change the powder, I may need to accustomed to the new medium. So the strokes didn't obey to my instructions. I managed to take a small break from my daily routine and tried this kolam.
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down 13-Dot dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
