A 16 dot sikku kolam, in which a plus sign and four heart shapes surfaced after shading was done. The outcome looks good, but in a closer view, the placement of dots had taken a random walk.
A 16 dot sikku kolam, in which a plus sign and four heart shapes surfaced after shading was done. The outcome looks good, but in a closer view, the placement of dots had taken a random walk. I should have concentrated a lot while placing the dots. Still I felt that didn't spoil the outlook of the kolam. Hope so. Any comments? I have added border and some twirls on the outer layer for enhancement. Dot count: 16x2-2 straight pattern.
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down 16x2 dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
