This sikku kolam was done at my mother's new home when I visited this June. The red soil mud floor enchanted me to draw bigger kolams. My mother witnessed my work with a smug look (too proud of her daughter), my Dad took over the supply of materials delivered at time. He bought me new colours and kola podi when the kolapodi was out of stock.
This is 19 dot kolam with straight pattern. I have added border and colour for enhancement. How many votes would you like to give for this kolam??!!!
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down the dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
