A hearts kolam with 11x11 dot for the Valentine's season. For this year, I tried to draw heart shaped kolams right from the start of the month. And succeeded to some level, as I successfully drew 14 k.
A hearts kolam with 11x11 dot for the Valentine's season. For this year, I tried to draw heart shaped kolams right from the start of the month.
And succeeded to some level, as I successfully drew 14 kolams, hearts being the theme of my kolams. The yellow and blue colour used in this kolam is recycled which I collected from my previous kolam.
As I do indoor kolam, I do have the luxury of recycling the colour powders, which can't go to waste.
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down 11x11 dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
