A freehand pattern in white. Another kolam with heart shape as an element adoring the kolam as per the theme for this month, Febuary.
This was done causally just with the thought doing as per the theme. Started with a pinwheel design at the centre. Extended the radial lines to form a outer ring with some detailing around.
On the next layer, added some lines and the theme element made it's entry at the last minute. Enclosing the hearts inside the layer by addition of wavy lines and lines, finished the kolam with a outline.
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down Freehand dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
