A pooja room kolam for Janmashtami to invite the little Krishna into our homes. This kolam is called Krishna's cradle. A square is drawn with four lines and connected at ends by locking into triangular shapes. The end lines on the sides form the innermost triangle of the knots. With padam at the centre and Shri on the sides, this kolam turns out to be auspicious and should be drawn only in the pooja room or Tulsi Vrindavan. Draw this kolam do your pooja by adding turmeric and vermilion, later offering Neivedhiyam to the Lord.
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down the dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
