A kolam done long ago with my favourite element, "The Paisleys". Its commonly known as "Mango Design", as it resembles the shape of mango in an inverted position, though it's shape is compared with Indian Pine cone. I have drawn kolams with paisleys and I think I have tried to replicate a design of mine done in the recent past and the kolam is in the link below. /paisleys-kolam-2/
I started with a simple base design and extended with paisleys. For shading I added lines and that gave a different ambiance to the display. Though its a single colour kolam, but giving detailing within the elements make a difference on a whole. If the lines had been replaced with cross lines, then it would have got another look.
Place the Dots
Sprinkle a few drops of water to clean the floor. Put down the dots in straight, even spacing using white rice powder or chalk.
Start from the Center
Find the middle dot. Draw the center loop, star knot, or flower petal first. Starting in the center keeps the pattern perfectly balanced on all sides.
Loop Around the Outer Dots
Pinch the rice flour between your thumb and forefinger. Guide the line smoothly around the dots in one continuous motion without lifting your fingers.
Add Red Border or Lamps
Outline the edges with traditional red Kaavi powder, or place glowing terracotta agal vilakku (oil lamps) at the corners to make your Kolam radiant!
